PA Department of Labor & Industry Releases information about Workplace Safety Committees and COVID-19

On March 25, the PA Bureau of Workers’ Compensation sent an email to all registered HandS users who have a certified safety committee in Pennsylvania.  In summary, the email addressed frequently asked questions about certified safety committee activities during the current COVID-19 crisis.  Here are the main points:

  1. Meetings missed during the “defined crisis period” will not affect continued certification.  “Catch up” meetings after the crisis will not be required.
  2. Annual committee trainings missed during the “defined crisis period” will not affect re-certification.  That said, the State is offering online training weekly AND EHD Risk Control is available to conduct Safety Committee training webinars.  Training can be provided at any time during the policy period.
  3. Application renewals are still encouraged to be submitted between 90 and 15 days prior to renewal.  However, late applications missed during the “defined crisis period” will be accepted by contacting the State once normal operations resume.

We have not yet seen a definition for the “defined crisis period”.  EHD will continue to monitor the Bureau’s position on this matter and will keep you informed of any further updates.

If you have any questions about the announcement or would like to speak to an EHD Risk Control Consultant about your safety committee, please reach out to me at my contact information listed below.
